Things to Consider When Buying a Smart TV for Your Home Entertainment

Chances are if you grew up in the ’80s or ’90s, you may have had access to only a few channels. And this was the era when entertainment relay began to expand

Once the big projection screens hit the market, the options you had for entertainment pretty much doubled. And now we’re in the age of the smart TV, where you can watch literally thousands of shows all from the comfort of your home.

But choosing a TV today can be a bit of an overwhelming experience. In fact, with all of the models out on the market now, it’s hard to know what you’re paying for, or why. And that’s true even if a salesperson explains it all to you.

If you’re considering buying a smart TV for your home entertainment needs, the following post will detail a few aspects you should consider.

Pre-Installed Apps

Most smart TVs today are being manufactured with apps such as Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, and the like. But not all models offer the same app choices. And some don’t offer any.

So unless you want to purchase additional streaming devices such as a Firestick or a Roku, you’ll want to pay attention to what apps are available; if the apps you want aren’t available, you may have to jailbreak your device.

Today, most people have “cut the cord” when it comes to traditional cable television. And some have even abandoned satellite TV altogether. In our modern age, streaming is the way to go, and this is what is driving the production of devices and smart TVs.

When you go shopping for a smart TV, ask about the app features, but also check to ensure that these apps are easily upgradeable. Because as you probably know, every bit of software produced today will need to be continually upgraded in order to function properly.

Size of the Room

If you live in a small home, chances are you won’t want a behemoth-sized TV taking up an entire wall in your living room. But if this is the style you prefer, go for it.

Your TV should be able to fit inside a room without you or anyone else having to stand against the wall to watch the screen. Essentially, the bigger the screen, the more space in your living room you’ll need.

Most commonly, a 50-inch smart TV can fit comfortably into any sized living area, but it might be a bit too large for a normal-sized bedroom.

The reason why room space is so important is that smart TVs are manufactured in extremely high definition. This means that your eye is able to take in much more detail. And being too close to the TV can ruin your vision and cause other problems. Additionally, smart TVs emit blue light, which can damage your eyes (and skin) over time.

Mount or Stand?

This is going to be mostly up to personal preference, and if you have the means to mount your TV or not. Additionally, you’ll also have to take into consideration the structure of the wall if you wish to mount your TV.

Mounting a smart TV can be a difficult process if you don’t have the tools or the know-how to properly secure your brackets into the wall. In addition, some walls such as brick, rock, or concrete will require masonry tools in order to safely mount your smart TV.

At the end of the day, if you want to mount a smart TV, ensure that this is possible. Some smart TVs don’t come equipped with mounting brackets. Brackets are sold separately for some models while others don’t have a mounting mechanism at all.

So unless you’re willing to go through the process of mounting a smart TV, a nice TV stand should do just fine.

Choosing the right smart TV can be an overwhelming experience. But as long as you know the technical specifications you want, choosing the right smart tv for your home can be a breeze.
