Many people are drawn to the idea of pursuing a career in healthcare. Not only do such jobs tend to come with decent salaries and a fair bit of job security, but they also give you the opportunity to make a positive difference in someone’s life who is potentially going through something incredibly challenging.

That being said, not everyone is called to become a doctor. The road to becoming a doctor is a long one and often takes at least four years of medical school and three to four years of residency. Not to mention the initial first four years that are necessary to complete a bachelor’s degree.

All in all, while becoming a doctor is a noble thing, it isn’t for everyone. The good news is that there are many different kinds of careers in the field of healthcare that is worth considering if you don’t want to go to medical school.

With that in mind, if you would like to have a career in healthcare but aren’t interested in going to medical school, here are a few options for you to consider.

Table of Contents

  • Healthcare Administration
  • Physical Therapy
  • Nursing

Healthcare Administration

There is an entire system of working professionals behind every hospital and medical practice. This team of healthcare administrators works incredibly hard to make sure that doctors and staff have everything they need to do their jobs and that patients are provided with what they require to get better.

Moreover, careers in healthcare administration can be incredibly lucrative. However, if you hope to become qualified for some of the top positions, you should plan on earning a master’s degree in healthcare administration. Institutions like Boston College MHA give students the opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge they need in order to have successful careers in healthcare administration.

Physical Therapy

In this day and age, most healthcare professionals understand just how much better it is to pursue safer, more holistic methods of pain management instead of simply prescribing harmful medication that can in many cases cause more harm than good. This is one of the reasons why the job outlook for physical therapy is so promising.

Physical therapists work with their patients to increase mobility and strength in order to manage pain from injuries, procedures, and other conditions. With a great deal of job security and plenty of opportunities, you can’t go wrong with a career as a physical therapist.

Nursing

Many people consider nurses to be the backbone of the healthcare system as it is today. Nurses work tirelessly to provide their patients with everything they need to heal and improve. They also assist doctors in providing life-saving care and treatments.

Unfortunately, there is (and has been for a while) a shortage of nurses across the country. This means, though, that there is plenty of opportunity for hardworking and dedicated nurses to work in a variety of healthcare settings and in different areas of medicine. From becoming a surgical nurse to working as an anesthesiologist, there are plenty of possibilities out there to consider.
