Control is becoming increasingly commonplace, from accessible Wi-Fi and business filtering of public networks to Internet service providers (ISP) and regional censorship.

In nations like China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia, internet censorship and filtering are the standards. In China, it is impossible to use Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, or YouTube. But there are still techniques to get around censored content.

Governments that require ISPs to restrict their internet connections are increasingly using blocked sites. It doesn’t matter where you live, you’ve probably run into a restricted website at some point.

Why Are Websites Blocked?

There are several explanations for the barriers.

Geo-Blocking Methods

Geo-blocking is used by many services to limit access to their material in certain countries. Such methods apply to restrict media that may come from different channels or social media. Sometimes, the same is used to fully restrict an entertainment channel.

Governmental Laws

When the government wants to achieve a specific goal, it can limit access to certain websites. In the wake of such scenarios, countries like China, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, and Iran can be quoted who have restricted certain social media groups to control different disturbances.

Restrictions by Service Providers

Third, it is common for companies to restrict access to certain websites, even within their own networks. It is used to control the information accessed by certain internet users and prevent them from visiting certain sites for the reason of data protection laws like GDPR.

How To Bypass The Internet Restrictions?

Use A Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Accessing prohibited websites like Facebook and YouTube is made possible with the use of a virtual private network (VPN). It is like an extra security layer to encrypt all your internet activities and privacy from being tracked by others. Besides, you can relocate your IP address with VPN so you are able to access geo-block content or any banned websites.

With the help of a VPN, you can access all the information freely on the internet. However, you have to consider the downside of VPN like slow loading speed, legal issues, connection breaks, etc.  You can get a free VPN or subscribe to a VPN service, it depends on your usage and the quality of VPN features. Sometimes free VPN may cause serious problems because you are the product if you do not pay for the service.

DNS Servers Can Circumvent Regional Restrictions

Smart DNS solutions have risen in popularity because of the recent ban on VPNs by services like Netflix and BBC iPlayer.

Although this is the least probable technique to succeed, it is still worth mentioning. Requests for restricted websites are being routed to alternative websites via DNS server changes by some ISPs as filtering. The web filtering service OpenDNS is used by some organizations that want to limit access to the Internet.

The internet’s capacity to function relies heavily on its DNS servers. The IP address of a domain name like google.com can be determined each time a request is sent from your browser.

ISPs configure DNS servers for you whenever you access a new network. In order to block a site, they can simply delete its DNS entries.

Internet speeds are one of the most important benefits of utilizing a smart DNS to bypass a website ban. However, DNS services do not provide the same level of privacy protection as a VPN. In addition, they do not allow encryption or change your IP address.

Using Proxy Servers

You can use a free proxy to swiftly access a banned site if you just need to do so once. A VPN or a fresh DNS server is more dependable and functional than a proxy. Other benefits can be gained from using them, however. There’s no need to fiddle with your device’s settings while using an anonymous web proxy.

By masking your actual IP address, a proxy can help you hide your true location. However, none of your data will be encrypted. Proxies aren’t as safe as VPNs since they don’t encrypt traffic; they’re great for bypassing network limitations at work and school, but they’re not ideal for browsing that requires anonymity.

Adding the Official IP Address

The IP address is hidden behind the domain name. IP addresses point to a server and route your internet traffic. Converting URLs to IP addresses is the job of domain name servers.

Your browser will show you the site’s IP address if you type it straight into the address bar. This method works well to get around network restrictions because many just ban domain name URLs, not their actual IP addresses.

Switching to TOR

With Tor, your data travels far and wide as it passes via thousands of nodes in different countries. You can surf anonymously with Tor. In order to do so, it uses an encrypted network to route your online browsing before it reaches an endpoint in an uncensored or unfiltered area. It also will clear your browsing history automatically to make sure no one can track your online activities.

Furthermore, you are able to surf the dark web with Tor which is the site you cannot get on the surface web. You can find anything on the dark web from pirated movies to illegal products. However, you are not recommended to visit the dark web as all your data may be hacked since the dark web is too dangerous.

Conclusion

With these strategies, you may simply circumvent blocked websites and get to the content you want. But keep in mind, once you break the regulations, you have to take responsibility for your information and privacy since data is gold in the internet world.
