This article will show you how to become an expert in a car purchase so that you can get the best deal possible. You will learn the tips and tricks to negotiating the best price possible for your vehicle and how to make a killer offer. In this article, you will become an expert on a car purchase so you can get even better deals on your next car.

Do Your Homework Before Buying

In order to be an expert, you will need to do some homework and determine what kind of car you really want. Do you want a car that has a lot of “papering” features? Do you want one with a sporty exterior? Do you want one that is very economical to maintain? These are things you need to figure out before you go looking for a vehicle.

Research Your Dream Car

Next, you’ll need to research the vehicle. Get all of the information you can. If you aren’t sure about any aspect of the car you plan to buy, don’t purchase it until you’ve done your research. Read reviews, search online forums and visit car dealerships. Look over brochures and fine print carefully. Check with your local tax assessor to make sure the vehicle is worth the price you’re paying for it.

Negotiate As Much As You Can

When you’ve figured out which kind of car you’re interested in purchasing, you can move on to actually be an expert on a car purchase. Now is the time to call around and negotiate. If you’re buying from a dealership, be prepared to haggle over price. If you’re going through a private party, be prepared to haggle over price as well.

You can also look at the fast track way, which would be through a pre purchase car inspection. By getting mechanical experts to look over your vehicle you will find out exactly what you’re in for and if there are any issues you might be buying into.

Do No Pay Extra

You should know the base MSR of the vehicle you are looking at. MSR stands for Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price. The base price is what most salespersons will try to sell you at, no matter where you go. It’s the cheapest they can get it for and it gives them an idea of what you can afford. If you know the MSR of the car you are considering purchasing, it’ll help you price it right.

Never come into a dealer offering to pay more than MSR. If they offer you an amount higher than the MSR, it’s because they have some kind of hidden fee that isn’t listed upfront. A real, honest dealer will only give you the MSR of the vehicle at the time of the sale. If they attempt to charge you more after you’ve been told the base price, they are committing sales fraud and should be reported to the proper authorities.

Check Car Condition Thoroughly

Make sure the car you are buying is in its best condition. Don’t offer to buy a car because it runs well or has a high safety rating. You might think the seller is being honest, but you may be able to find out otherwise. Have the car inspected by a trusted mechanic before you bring it home. Ask for the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to ensure it’s not a stolen car. The VIN will give you a year, make, model, mileage, and anything else that could help you determine whether the car has been in any accidents or other problems.

One of the worst things you can do when purchasing a used car is to purchase a car based on the color. While there are great colors to choose from, not all colors are created equal. Be an expert on a car purchase; never purchase a car based on color alone. There are often hidden fees associated with used cars. These fees will affect the final price you pay.

Final Words

After finding the car you are interested in, consider buying a car warranty if yours doesn’t have one. Depending on where you live, every company will be slightly different. You may be wondering, “Can you buy a used car warranty in California?” Yes. You can always buy warranty coverage in a state such as California.

After a little research and a lot of practice, you will be well on your way to becoming an expert on buying cars.
