Email hosting is a lot like online hosting systems. Having an email address is simple – sign up with an ISP, register with Google, buy a web hosting plan – but free and paid services don’t necessarily offer the price that advanced users require.

Email hosting plans are a simple way to get a more efficient and reliable service. Exactly what’s included depends on the provider, but you may get support for larger attachments (up to 50 MB), 50 GB or more storage space for your inbox, online storage for easy file sharing, bundled apps like Microsoft Office Online, Exchange and Active Directory support for business users – not to mention 24/7 support if anything goes wrong.

Your email should function with a custom domain ([email protected]) so it’s normally simple to set up. You may select an email hosting package to easily bypass the operation of your site server, or you can seek it without any storage at all.

For premium packages priced around $1 a month an account and free trial available, it’s convenient for anybody to try out the email hosting market. If you’re searching for a specific account or want to protect your whole company, read on to the top five companies that you may want to try out first and write for us on hosting

Bluehost’s

When you’re a small company with a low headcount and don’t want to waste hundreds of dollars on email addresses, remember it. Through EIG-owned Bluehost comes an exclusive business email plan for TechRadar readers where you get unrestricted email addresses and email storage for as little as $2.75 when you subscribe for three years; that’s only $99 for the length of the contract. Is it necessarily infinite, though?

Bluehost claims they ‘re not enforcing any government limitations. In fact, they note, “while having an email address is unrestricted, they depend on the file capacity available on the server. Customers will work under the Terms of Service to ensure that services are sufficient to completely allow email features. Customers working under the Terms of Service are yet to run up against legal restrictions for accounts, URLs, or websites.

And what’s the catch? For example, although you get help for POP3 and IMAP4 plus 24/7, this is something like a barebone approach. You can choose between three webmail applications (equivalent to Outlook.com or Gmail.com), Horde, Roundcube or Squirrelmail.

You should, of example, instal an email application such as Mail for Windows 10 or Mozilla Thunderbird to read your emails offline. Having a new email address is a doddle with a simple user interface.

Fasthosts

Email hosting may sound costly, and that is mainly because major corporations are fighting endlessly to provide the greatest amount of inbox and file storage space. That’s perfect if you need it, just not so much for light email users searching for negotiating.

Fasthosts Simple Email Plan is a stripped-down email hosting service that provides the basic necessities for a rather low price.

You get two email addresses of 2 x 2 GB mailboxes to sign up. You can also get antivirus, POP3 and IMAP4, 24/7 service, and webmail links. That’s limited but look at the price: just $2.60 (£1.99) a month on the annual plan (you can get 50 per cent off at the time of writing). Unless the customers don’t even need the gigabytes available elsewhere, Fasthost’s more simple bundle may make a lot of sense.

Fasthosts also provides a more powerful Exchange Email package with a 50 GB mailbox, connectivity to the Outlook web interface, and even a free domain for the first year. It’s valued at $5.8 (£4.49) a month for five or more customers on an annual plan. You may also select a $13 (£9.99) 100 GB mailbox. As before, Fasthosts focuses more on price than strength, but if you just need a simple Exchange account, there’s a lot of interest here.

Fasthosts Email Hosting $1.99 a month.

Office No 365

Microsoft Office 365 is not yet a popular suite of productivity software. It even bundles in a very competent email kit, and for less money than other services, it pays for email only, which might make the company worth a spot on the shortlist.

Microsoft 365 Enterprise Specific includes support for 150 MB attachments, for example, three times the size permitted by some premium rivals. 50 GB of storage per person (with unique email domain address) ensures that you will be able to hold your messages for a very long time, with 1 TB of online storage is included through your OneDrive wallet.

Access to Office Online allows you to work with Text, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint presentations from inside the device, plus there are a range of business-friendly extras: schedules, video conferencing, smart scan, process management, and more.

If you don’t even have Office 365, the Company Specific price of $5 a month (for annual billing) sounds like a reasonable deal to us. However, if you are only interested in business-class email, Microsoft’s Exchange Online Plan 1 provides Exchange accounts for $4 per user per month on an annual plan.

Zoho-Mail

Zoho Mail is a centralised e-mail provider with a packed electronic office package and a range of bonuses. Several of the newest features introduced by Zoho Mail are: offline mode, undo mail, recall mail, huge attachments (up to 250 MB) and a few others.

A free plan gives you five mailboxes with up to 5 GB per user, an attachment limit of 20 MB and webmail access. A referral system could give you help for another 25 mailboxes (at the time of writing the referral service was not active due to remodelling).

When that is too simple, the Standard Plan would provide you support for IMAP and POP, 30 MB attachments and 30 GB of data, 5 GB of file storage space, and support for operating with various domains. This is more capable than some of the premium competition and includes the same productivity tools as the free suite, but still costs only $3 per user per month, billed annually.

Zoho ‘s Advanced package would offer you 100 GB of capacity (per user), 40 MB of attachments, support for Active Directory classes, and more. It’s yours for $6 per account per month (billed annually), not bad at all for the disc space and apps you receive. Also, Lite’s plan is available with less features, but it’s only $1 per user per month, billed annually.

Ten things to search for in the next email hosting

When you choose to run email accounts associated with your domain, you can look through these email options before you sign up.

Many networking providers should be willing to handle your own email (such as [email protected]). Your kit should provide a variety of email addresses, typically from 1-10 for simple hosting.

You should have keys to your own email control panel to set up your accounts. Using e-mail needs two things: an e-mail server and an e-mail programme, which may be an e-mail client, such as Outlook, or an option to using Webmail, such as Gmail or Yahoo.

The e-mail system is a piece of software that operates on the computer which is continually linked to the internet. It collects and handles any mail sent to it and removes any mail you send to it.

The e-mail client is an app that runs on your PC, phone or tablet and allows you to send, receive and organise your e-mails, e.g. It’s Microsoft Outlook. The client checks and downloads messages from the mail server for viewing. It’s a monitoring panel for reading and writing notes.

Great thing is that most email clients will link to most email servers, and you can also attach different email servers to several email accounts.

You will even view your job and personal emails via the same email address. Less common email clients like Outlook offer you less options (calendars, projects, etc.) than using webmail.

Webmail is a web-based email service that can be used through a cloud browser and is also easier and more accessible as it enables people to view saved data more easily without needing to update applications locally.

Emails may be verified from any computer that has links to the Internet. Mail protocols are a series of guidelines that enable the recipient to transfer the details to or from the mail server. POP and IMAP are two of the most popular email protocols:

1. POP (Post Office Protocol) Applications such as Outlook will use POP to download emails from the server to your computer and then delete them from the server.

2. IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) IMAP is more sophisticated than POP, through IMAP, emails are saved in the mail server and can be read by every device everywhere because they can use IMAP.

The mail data is kept on the cloud as well as on your machine before you uninstall the message. When comparing hosting packages, make sure to choose one with full IMAP support.

Correspondence is the gold standard email protocol – the most costly choice for the three, although with good cause. It’s a Microsoft system that allows you the power to synchronise activities like IMAP, along with the added opportunity to exchange contacts and calendars between employees.

CONCLUSION

If you can manage to incur additional charges (about $9.99 per month per mailbox), you will enjoy the advantages of its enhanced capabilities and resources that can be accessed even when you’re on the run.
