Top Tips For Improving Webinars

If you are worried about your online webinar being ignored or even completely abandoned by the audience watching it, then there are a number of things that you can do in order to ensure that this does not happen to you, either now or in the future. These tips are listed below.

Identify Yourself

Having a photograph of yourself either at or near the very start of the webinar means that the audience is able to visualize who it is that is talking to them. It also helps to build a greater level of trust in those listening to you are more likely to take on board the information that you are delivering to them.

Have Lots Of Visuals

The main difference between a webinar and a live presentation to an audience is that the former requires the use of many more visuals. This is because their attention is solely focused on the screen and so there need to be things on there at all times in order to keep them engaged. What works great to keep attention is an on-screen animation. You can enhance any webinar that you produce with a graphic recorder.

Highlight Important Information

During a face-to-face presentation, you are able to physically point to any important information that there may be on screen. Because you cannot do this on a webinar, the next best thing is to highlight that information by either bolding it or using color. Most software for creating webinars has the functionality to do this.

Take Questions

At the end of each and every section of the webinar, pause to take questions from the audience. On any webinar platform that you use, there is the functionality for members of the audience to write and submit any questions that they may have. Make sure that you answer these in a correct and honest manner, using the full breadth of your knowledge.

Have Something On Screen When Taking Questions

Make sure that when you are answering any questions that have been submitted by your audience (either live or pre-submitted) that what is displayed on the screen is relevant. It is important that a previous slide is not still on display, which may not be relevant to the questions that you are answering and/or may distract the audience from what you are saying.

Make Use Of Headphones

There is the very real risk that if you do not use headphones when delivering your webinar that the microphone that you are speaking into picks up on the sound of the noise coming out of the speakers, which leads to a very off-putting echo/interference loop.

Rehearse

Once you think that you have done all of these things and have everything in place to deliver a successful webinar, you should then run through it, performing a number of rehearsals. Doing this will also allow you to time it and see if it runs to time, or goes over or under your allotted amount of time.
