Everyone can use a DIY (Do It Yourself) project every now and then. Stickers are a great example of such a project. You can use them for personalizing your workspace or for some guerilla marketing efforts and pretty much anything else you can imagine.

You can even check some of the stickers online for inspiration if you’re running low on ideas. Making stickers is a fun project that will keep you engaged and entertained.

If you don’t know how to make stickers; don’t worry. All you need is a bit of creativity, imagination, and some fine materials to work with. The rest will come together eventually. Therefore, here’s a beginner guide on how to make your own stickers.

Choose a Design

First of all, you’ll have to come up with the design for the stickers. You can use pencils to draw the design or use one of the illustrations or photo editing software on your computer. It comes down to personal preferences and skills.

Once you decide on the design, you can style it any way you wish and, of course, color it the way you see fit. The design can range from portraits to shapes and even logos or slogans. Just go with what you think is best or something specific if you’ve decided on the purpose for your stickers.

Choose the Right Materials

When it comes to materials, contact or stick paper is the obvious choice because you’re making stickers after all. However, you can experiment a little if you’re feeling adventurous. For instance, you can use baking paper or parchment paper and clear packing tape.

You can even try to make your own glue using gelatin, water, and corn syrup. If you use other materials to make glue, don’t inhale it for too long or you might start seeing weird things. It’s always better to use organic materials you probably already have at your home than experiment with toxic chemicals.

Making Your Stickers

Once you have the design and materials ready, it’s time to put everything together. Just apply the design onto the materials or print it out. If you’re using contact paper your job is almost done. If not, don’t forget to apply glue to the backside of the stickers.

Before you do that, however, make sure you use scissors to cut the stickers in accordance with their shape. You can apply clear packing tape to the front side of the stickers and voila. You now have water-proof stickers.

Just don’t forget to run stickers through warm tap water with the paper side facing the stream. If you applied the tape correctly, the paper should completely dissolve leaving only the ink on the tape. You should leave the stickers to completely drive so that the tape’s adhesive will become sticky once again.

Now, you can proceed to stick these wherever you want. If you use it for guerilla marketing purposes, be mindful of the elderly citizens when applying stickers to lamp posts or traffic lights because you’ll be labeled as a hooligan.

Closing Words

Making your own stickers is a fun and pretty simple project. Moreover, it doesn’t cost much either. Most of the materials you need you already have in your home somewhere. If you want something special, you’ll have to invest a bit. Still, having custom-made stickers you can use whenever and wherever you want is totally worth it.
