A Know-It-All Guide on LED Security Light Wall Pack [Updated 2021]

Let’s face it:

Over the years, wall pack lights have utilized different traditional lighting methods, the most dominant being:

These traditional lamps haven’t been efficient and, but thanks to occasional improvements, modern ones have been able to produce brighter light, last longer, and withstand harsh weather conditions.

However:

Despite these awesome enhancements, traditional lights can never outperform LED security light wall pack fixtures.

From the quality of lighting, energy efficiency, to durability, LED Wallpack lights will always have the upper hand.

For that reason:

If you’re planning to install wall pack security lights at your class, home, or business, it’s prudent to go for LEDs. Either way, you’ll need to know quite much about this modern method of lighting.

That’s where this post comes into play.

Do you want to learn something new about Wallpack LEDs? I guess you do.

Here, I’ll tell you all you need to know about LED Security Light Wall Pack.

Let’s get down to it…

What are LED Security Light Wall Packs?

Well:

Referred to as LED wall lights, these are outdoor lighting lamps that are mounted on the exterior walls of buildings. Due to their overt dominance, you have probably bumped into them. They are mostly used for illuminating:

Note:

In some places, you’ll see multiple fixtures mounted on a single wall of a building. This is to ensure even and uniform lighting all over the surroundings.

And that’s it about the basics.

I know you might be wondering whether these commercial outdoor security lighting fixtures are worth the investment.

So, let’s answer this question:

Why Should You Install Wall Pack Security Lights?

There are many reasons why installing these lights in your home or in your business place is a prudent move.

While Wallpacks illuminate a place fully and ensure security, they also improve the curb appeal. It’s obvious, a commercial building that’s well lit will attract more customers, right?

Plus, these lights will spruce up the look of your home at night.

Anyway:

Here are 3 reasons why you should install LED security wall packs:

1. An Added Layer Of Security

Perfect lighting does not only improve visibility but is also an assurance of safety and security. Let’s face it – well-lit areas repel illegal activities such as theft and vandalism.

In a home, the family feels safer and secure.

Wallpack fixtures also make the work of security guards and surveillance cameras easier.

Simply put:

It is recommended that business owners set up wall pack lights not just at the front of the building but all around. This way, people will feel comfortable approaching the building, and theft cases will be minimal – if not zero.

2. They Improve Visibility

Slip and fall accidents mostly happen at night because it’s easier to stumble on an obstacle, trip, and end up with a broken bone without proper lighting.

Therefore:

To avoid that, sufficient illumination is important. Plus, it makes moving around your property fast, easy, and safe.

And while this may sound like a matter of convenience, it might be a legal concern on commercial premises. Note that, you may be held accountable if someone gets hurt on your business property due to poor lighting.

So, avoid this by installing outdoor security wall pack lights.

3. Improves the Curb Appeal

Are you more interested in improving your property’s aesthetics? If so, installing quality LED wall pack lights can also help.

Wall pack outdoor lights can go a long way in improving the general appearance and beauty of your home. Moreover, you can take this to a whole other level by installing fixtures with unique color tones.

Moving on…

What Types of LED Wallpack Lights Are Available?

Well:

There are four types of LED Security Wall Packs

a.) LED Cut-Off Wall Packs.

These fixtures are most appropriate for areas that require very little to no light pollution.

Unlike other fixtures that produce diverging beams of light, cut-off wall packs project the light downwards to the intended location. That way, they eliminate energy wastage and keep light pollution at bay.

Also, they are very accurate and energy-efficient.

These security lights are well-suited for schools, hospitals, public parks, commercial buildings, and any place that requires concentrated light.

They are rated at a minimum lifespan of 50,000 hours. The installation is all straight-forward and they impose little to zero maintenance costs.

b.) LED Slim Wall Packs

LED slim wall packs are a smaller version of the cut-off wall packs. Just like the latter, they direct the light beam to the targeted location; giving out quality light and stamping out light contamination.

Appearance-wise:

They have a slim, compact design and are, therefore, suitable for areas with limited installation space. They will fit perfectly in the little space without even sticking out.

One awesome thing about them is that they are adjustable.

This feature comes in handy when you want to direct light to a specific location.

c.) Traditional LED Wall Packs

Traditional wall packs are the most commonly used fixtures. They are available in a torrent of varieties and are known for their classic design, affordability, and availability.

However:

Most of them are rated between 1,000 and 10,000 hours making them less durable than LEDs; hence, more expensive to run and maintain.

Also:

Unlike traditional outdoor security wall pack lighting, LED versions are energy-efficient; a 70-watt LED wall pack is equivalent to a 250-watt traditional fixture. Consequently, LED wall packs can help cut down your power bills by up to 80%!

d.) LED Tall Packs

Without a doubt, you can never go wrong with LED tall packs if you are looking to light up entrances and exits of buildings. They are an inexpensive option but, despite that, they are durable and undoubtedly efficient.

A great feature of these models is that most of them are equipped with photocells.

And if you don’t know what a photocell is:

A photocell is a lighting feature that enables a light fixture to automatically turn on at dusk and turn off when darkness disappears.

Therefore:

These outdoor security wall packs minimize energy wastage and save you from the hassle of flipping the switch on and off every time.

What’s more? They come in different color tones and their wattages range between 15w and 40w. And as for the lifespan, they are rated between 25,000 and 100,000 hours.

These fixtures are also perfect for homeowners wanting to add more security in their homes and to keep their families safe.

Anyway:

Those are the four types of LED security wall packs. Which one is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below.

Now:

You might be wondering how you can buy a good wall pack security light. If so, this next bit is for you:

Factors to Consider When Buying LED Security Wall Packs

Since the market is flooded with a myriad of wall pack lights, landing on a counterfeit or inferior quality one is quite easy. Many brands have hit the market and they are all promising quality, durable lamps.

So, how do you get the best ones?

Well:

Before you invest your money in them, consider the following factors:

1. Lumen Rating

The lumens determine the quality and quantity of the visible light produced by a source.

You see, one mistake people make when purchasing wall packs is considering watts instead of lumens.

Get this:

Wattage is only a measure of the amount of electricity a bulb draws; while lumens determine the level of brightness of the fixture.

So, more lumen in a bulb implies more brightness.

For LED lighting, higher lumens matched with lower wattage is the perfect choice. This will lead to an energy-efficient lighting system.

2. UL Rating

Obviously:

Outdoor security lights are exposed to harsh weather conditions, including, water and moisture.

Given these considerations:

You should only buy a fixture that allows operation in a wet location.

But:

How do you know it does?

It’s quite simple…

Look for the UL Wet Rating on the box that the lamp comes with. The ‘UL Rated stamp’ indicates that the fixture is safe for use outdoors.

Note:

Lamps without the stamp cannot withstand harsh weather and this compromises their lifespan.

3. Light Color

LED lights are available in a variety of colors.

The temperature color of a fixture is measured in Kelvins (K). Yellow lights have a lower K number than the white ones.  The following are some colors you can choose from:

3000K – This color choice is warm and calm. It is a perfect choice for areas that require serenity such as bedrooms, offices, and study rooms.

4000K – It emits a natural cool white light that’s sharp and radiant. This is well suited for business buildings and places of work.

5000K – This one is a good choice for high-roofed halls, large rooms, and outdoor use. It produces light that is bright and active, although not harmful to the eyes.

Note this:

Lights that are beyond 5000K are not recommended with authorities like the American Medical Association restricting/discouraging their use. Moreover, the use of lights beyond 5700K is dangerous to the environment and your health as well. It adds blue light to the spectrum which is known to affect melatonin.

4. Photocell Feature

As aforementioned, a photocell is a sensor that automatically turns the lights on at night and off depending on the time of day.

To be at par with technology, it’s recommended that you get a wall pack light with a photocell. Photocell equipped lights are very energy-efficient and, most importantly, provide top-tier security and convenience.

Most LED pack lights in the market today are photocell enabled.

5. Motion Sensor Features

Just as the name suggests, motion sensors operate by detecting motion. When some motion is detected, they automatically turn the light on and if no motion is detected for some minutes, they turn the light off.

LEDs equipped with motion sensors are best for rooms that are rarely used and in places that don’t really need constant lighting.

Anyway:

This brings us to the end of the post.

Has it been helpful? I hope it has.

LED-wall pack lights are a convenient way to light up your business space, garage, pathways, and the exteriors of your home. They are an affordable option and they have little maintenance needs and costs.

And since there are so many available options, I believe this post will help you find the best fit.
