Whether you’re setting up a new restaurant or redesigning an existing eatery, you’ll have to choose the seat. There are endless options – different styles of chairs, different types of tables, and booth seating. Booths have been popular since the 1800s, and continue to be a favorite among some diners. Specific customers tend to opt for booth seating, particularly families, large groups, and those looking for a quieter, peaceful place to sit in the restaurant. Booths make a great addition to any restaurant and will attract new customers and keep them coming back. When choosing booths for your restaurant consider comfort, price, delivery time, how easy they are to clean, and the reputation of the supplier. But in addition to these important factors, there are other points to consider when buying restaurant booths.

Booth Seating Reduces Floor Traffic And Helps Your Servers

One of the advantages of booth seating is that there is less floor traffic around the tables. Booths are usually positioned back-to-back (double booths) and against a wall, or in a corner. This means there is the only access to one side of the table. Having less traffic around the table is excellent for diners who want to eat in peace and quiet. But it also helps the serving staff. Instead of moving around the table trying not to bump into anyone, or having to squeeze between chairs, they can stand at the open end of the table, and from there dish out all the food. Booths reduce floor traffic, giving a less frenetic atmosphere, and they help servers by reducing the obstacles they have to navigate to reach the table.

Are Booths Right For Your Customers?

Booths don’t suit all customers. Some prefer to be in the middle of all the action where they can see and be seen. Others are looking for privacy. Some customers will find booth seating extremely comfortable because of the padded seat and backrest. Other diners will not like having to slide into a booth. They might find this difficult or awkward. This applies particularly to elderly people, or people with limited mobility. Families with young kids will often ask for booth seating so that they can contain their little ones in a booth where they can’t “escape”! Other customers might find booths restricting and confining, and prefer the easy access of a chair they can simply push away from the table. Know your customers, and try to give them several seating options so that you can please everyone.

Think About Your Floor Plan

You can incorporate booths into your restaurant by lining them along the wall perimeters, organizing them back-to-back along a wall, or using benches (single booths) to break up an open dining area. Depending on the size of your establishment you can also add half-circle booths, three-quarter-circle booths, or L-shaped booths to the corners of your restaurant. It may take a bit of adjusting your original floor plan but it will result in attracting customers who particularly like booth seating. Your customers’ experience will be influenced by the environment you provide. Arrange your booths, chairs, and tables to give customers several seating options. Customers looking for intimate, private seating, or large groups that want to sit together, will appreciate the addition of booths. When you’re going to buy restaurant booths for sale you should know all the dimensions of your space and the ideal dimensions of your booths.

Not All Booths Are Created Equally

Did you know that booths can be customized? If you need your corner booths a particular length you can have them custom-made. If you want to use booths at a high counter or bar, you can have raised booths. The height of your booths is very important in relation to the tables you’ll be using. You should know which tables are going to go with your booths before you order so that you can get the correct height. You can also choose from a wide range of colored vinyl, fabric, or wood to cover your booths. Pick restaurant booths that suit your establishment. But also remember they should be easy to clean, comfortable to sit in and suit your floor plan. There are also a number of options you should enquire about including whether you want a booth that is stationary (secured to a wall on one side, or to the floor) or whether it can be moved around. Also, ask your booth supplier whether your booths have a footrest. Find out how high the backrest is, and ask how thick the seat padding will be.

Consider Your Options

There are several aspects to consider when choosing restaurant seating. Whether you opt for chairs and tables only, booths only, or a mix of different styles of seating, make sure you have considered all the variables before making your choice.
