What If The Internet Never Existed?

Today, the internet runs everything. From our mobile phones, to now the automatic machines; everything is connected to the internet. Everything in our lives has become entirely dependent on the internet.

Although the internet was initially invented for military purposes only, and today it has journeyed into a commodity for every individual. People now only look for fast and reliable internet connections so that their everyday businesses do not face any hindrance. One such example is Mediacom internet that always delivers high-speed internet services to its customers at a good bargain. With something so inculcated in our lives it makes you wonder how everything would have been without the internet in the first place.

The internet has certainly evolved into one of the most important innovations in contemporary history, and it is difficult to picture life without it. The internet is seen as the current trend, which everyone should follow in every way. However, many people have grown up without access to the internet these days, and it’s difficult to picture living without it. Apart from the fact that you would not be here reading about ‘what if the internet never existed’ since there would have been no such idea. However, let’s take a look into how our lives would have been, had the internet never existed.

Ways of Communication

All thanks to the internet that it has metamorphosed all sorts of communication and everyone from anywhere across the globe has become just a click away and we instantly link via a video or audio call or a message. That would not have been possible without the internet. We might either have to pay a hefty amount for a long-distance call or would have to write a letter and wait for days or months for the response, depending on the distance.

With so many varied ways to communicate, one can argue that the internet has increased the general frequency of communication that allows us to keep in touch and make social arrangements with the people we already know in person. The cost for just basic communication would have been a lot. Currently, we have all the things so conveniently available at our disposal and we make free calls and send text messages all the time.

Companies like Pevco Systems and Ascom Communications were picturing a high-tech world, where the fax machines and calls were to be replaced by ‘sophisticated’ in-office sucking tubes. So just imagine that instead of having a laptop on your lap, you entirely had to rely on a wall-embedded chute to provide you with the most up-to-date articles.

Technological Advancements

From having a smartphone in your hand to space missions, nothing would have been possible. Today we have satellite technologies and have an international space station set up. Communication with it would not have been possible without the internet even. There was no way for us to look at the universe beyond Earth. We have made our way to automatic mops as well now that works on your command without you having to lift a single hand. All due to the internet.

Deforestation

This comes as the biggest advantage of the internet. If there had been no internet, there would be no virtual world and all the information and knowledge would have only been written on pages. For this, deforestation would be at its peak. Our environment must have been close to succumbing to this. We’d have to go back to tracking products on paper if there was no Internet access between airports, planes, ships, railroads, and commercial truckers.

Education

The field of education has been under a great impact of internet technology. Especially since the dawn of the Novel Covid-19 and the rise of virtual classrooms, we have realized its value. If there was no internet just to begin with the students would still be rushing towards the libraries and searching through hundreds of books to complete their assignments. Right now all the information is at your disposal with just one click. Long-distance learning today has opened portals for success for the coming generations. If there had been no internet, this would not have been possible. A pandemic like Covid-19 would have set back educational development. Only people who could afford to travel would have access to greater knowledge and information

Conclusion

The Internet has become such a basic necessity of life now that it has become so difficult to imagine how the world would have been without its existence. The Internet was a technological breakthrough that propelled us into the twenty-first century and revolutionized the way we socialized, conducted business, and made purchases. It set the path for the future, and it still has a lot of interesting developments ahead of it.
